About Guide Dogs for The Blind
Having expertly bred and trained dogs for over 75 years, Guide Dogs for the Blind help provide mobility and freedom to thousands of blind and partially sighted people across the country. Alongside the animal training, the charity also campaign for equal rights for the visually impaired, fund eye research campaigns, and also provide confidence building rehabilitation for those with eyesight problems.
Where the money goes?
A blind person may require up to 7 guide dogs in their lifetime, with each guide dog requiring around 20 months of training, seven years of support and has a lifetime cost of over £40,000. Guide Dogs for the Blind intend to increase the number of partnerships by a third by 2020, which will require an extra £3.3m a year over the next decade compared to today. With no government funding, Guide Dogs for the Blind rely entirely on the kindness of their supporters and their generous donations.
